Each Sunday we start off our early evening at the Abbey. It's the meeting place where all converge before we head off to the other bars, making the rounds. Expensive- yes. Find the right bartender and you're OK. Rude? Well, it's hard to make friends unless someone introduces you to someone else. No one cares to make an effort. We're usually in a group and we talk to anyone walking by or alone. We'd like to think we're a fun group. Been going to the Abbey since it was a coffee shop back in the day (across the street). The breeders (way too many as mentioned in the other reviews) - well, as the night goes on, the fun subsides, so we go to the other bars in the viscinity. Fun until 7:30-8 pm on Sunday night.

Breeders are invading- yes it's true and we have to share our space. Went there last week and I swear there were more straight people than gay people. What a shame. This used to be the best bar in WEHO hands down for gays or lesbians. Was a great inclusive atmosphere with great music and drinks. Now the menu has changed- got worse. The clientele has changed- got straighter and I am wondering if we are getting pushed out of our own community. Still has an awesome atmosphere but they don't make the drinks the way they used too. It's too bad really.

Breeders Are Invading!!!

I really liked this bar 3 years ago. It's by far the classiest gay bar you'll find in LA, with an occasional celebrity appearance, but the breeders started to take it over about a year ago when it changed ownership. Oh yeah, and ALL the hot bartenders are straight! It's a good place to take your fag hag or friends from out of town, but if you're looking for good dancing and a gay-ol-time there are better places around town.

I've been chillen at the abbey since I was in high school over 10 years ago when it was mainly a coffee and pastry shop! I've seen its growing pains & watched it grow into an amazing Empire for the gay community to come together and celebrate our uniqueness!Yes there are snobs, rude waiters & bitchy bartenders& sometimes getting served can be a bit of a pain,but for every bad there is a great! I've found some of the most beautiful,talented,colorful people and experiences there! I'm so proud to know the Great Abbey grew in the heart of Weho as a gay bar where you can bring your straight guy friends & have confidence they'll be impressed & have a great time!I want to thank David Cooley the creator of the Abbey for inspiring a poor young gay boy from the ghetto to shoot for the stars! The Abbey is a must! Great drinks, OK food, beautiful surroundings!

Elegant bar with great music

The place is elegant and the music is truly great. Very good place to see people that are "in", relaxed and without complexes. I wish there was a dance floor. It is difficult to get service and the waiters are uninterested and rude.

The Abbey is the place to be! If you are looking for the sterotypical gay bar/club, the Abbey is it. Classy, great venue. The only people who don't like the Abbey are the ugly people who don't fit in....

Has the potential to be a better bar

Been here a few times, first time I was quite impressed, well there wasn't anything like it in LA before. The one time we ate here I had to borrow someones lighter to read the menu, food was OK. Drinks are expensive when you consider the glasses are smaller then other bars use. The one nice thing I like is the light fixture over the main bar. Great fixture. Someone should tell the owner to get help that has good customer/people skills.

It's not the worse bar in town. That's the nicest thing I can say... The bartenders ARE rude, a lot of people are standing and posing for no reason and friendly folks are hard to find. Oh wait a second good thing is it's pretty. Skip it or grin and bear it.

Been there a couple of time, yes it is crowded, most of the people there are rude, and probably don't have a pot to piss in. Bartenders not friendly. ABSOLUTELY no people skills. I dont mind paying the drink prices if only the bartenders were nicer.

Conceited Ugly People?

Yes! Lots of NOBODY'S standing around, posing for invisible cameras. Not a comfortable place if you're out-going and enjoy being yourself without getting rude dirty looks. Drinks are over-priced and the bartenders are clumsy.

Overrated...

By all means visit the Abbey if you enjoy overpriced drinks served by overly rude bartenders. The prettier you are the quicker you'll be served. And don't even think of applying for a bartender position unless you're caucasian. Plenty of non-whites picking up dishes and glasses and cleaning up however. Skip it.

FINALLY, a place where summer never ends

FINALLY, a place where summer never ends, if your into the outdoors then The Abbey is the place for you. If it is your first time there, you will not be sorry. If you like, candle light, art, good food, great drinks and do not mind smoke then the Abbey's for you. There is off street parking if you can find it or you can pay, way down the street there is a parking lot. Get there early or you will have to wait in line Yes, there is a line a long line to get in. As the nights get warmer expect longer wait times, afternoon seems to be the best for those who like their space. Great first date place or for those of us who like romance I cannot think of a better place. The crowd changes like the weather, it may take several visits b4 finding the right day or night for you. Bring a friend, talk, eat, drink and be Mary.

This Place is Amazing!

The ever-expanding Abbey in West Hollywood is perhaps the coolest gay/gay-friendly bar (and so much more) in the country. The lavish decor is visually stunning and the large fireplace makes it feel very cozy at the same time. I highly recommend this place to anyone who visits West Hollywood. They have great food too!
