About the show:
This provocative new musical ventures deep into a world that has finally attained peace, order, and prosperity through the rise of a dominant authoritarian party, the Coalition of the Sacred. The so-called "plague of immorality" has been extinguished through the government’s absolute control over all aspects of personal life, including strict procedures on intimacy and the extermination of unnatural sexual activity. However, no peace can last forever. There are whispers in the shadows of an uprising that would shatter this peace and bring forth a new age of freedom. Andrew, a bright-eyed young student of the Coalition, finds himself unwittingly thrown into the belly of a clandestine brothel and cabaret lurking beneath the city, where he embarks on an eye-opening adventure through the many manifestations of love. Meanwhile, the party’s sinister arm of enforcement known as the Service is hot on the trail of the cabaret, seeking to eliminate the deviant libertines that find solace there. The battle between civil order and liberties rages on in this dark, touching story that explores notions of love, identity, and the extremes we will go to for freedom.
About the Venue:
The Hotel Café is a live music venue located off an alley on the Cahuenga Boulevard strip in Hollywood that has become known for helping to establish the careers of new singer-songwriters in the 2000s. The venue began as a coffee shop, but has gained a reputation as an intimate performance space featuring acoustic-based female songwriters, such as Anna Nalick, Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, Priscilla Ahn, Charlotte Martin, Laura Jansen and Meiko. The venue has become its own brand, with its Hotel Café Tour, a record label, and two albums, Live From the Hotel Café.
