The Pop tART Gallery in association with LA Canvas Magazine proudly present new work by Los Angeles based street artist cantstopgoodboy.
In this exhibition entitled "The Lucky 13," the artist will produce 13 exclusive pieces for this showing of work at Pop tART Gallery. As we enter the new year, artist cantstopgoodboy, in his own true form, makes 2013 the inspiration behind his new show.
Luck or fortune (whether good or bad) has often been thought of as actions that arise without one's own intention or desired result. Rather than appropriating luck to this perspective idea ruled by a god or a "lucky" symbol (i.e. the rabbits foot or four leaf clover), the artist expands on luck as a descriptive entity in a body of work based on a fortuitous year. In this series, the artist combines the idea of numerology and juxtaposes it with the traditional "unlucky" number 13 as it relates to the coming year, 2013.
In "The Lucky 13," cantstopgoodboy promotes the workmanship of creating art within his own perspective. Luck is not conveyed as a magical force that shines down on select artists, but is visualized in cantstopgoodboy's art and colorized to his own form and style; creating a body of work which paints a picture of success. It doesn't require a lottery ticket or a charm to be lucky, but instead a dedication and passion to the belief system that embodies the finished piece. Consequently creating the luck one needs to be recognized as an artist.
Artist cantstopgoodboy uses color and bright patterns to convey a sense of hope through the lens of pop culture. His ideas about what contemporary art should, or rather, could be are centered around his love of his hometown of Los Angeles and the nostalgia of its people, style, culture and weather. With murals and installations all over the streets, cantstopgoodboy's achievements have not gone unnoticed. He has done numerous collaborations with companies such as Sony, Warner Bros., TOMS Shoes, Converse, as well as Serj Tankian, lead singer of System of a Down. Cantstopgoodboy is excited and honored to open the next installment of his work, "The Lucky 13," at the Pop tART Gallery.
