The Board of Directors of San Gabriel Valley Pride is pleased to present “Pride Is!” on Saturday, September 28th from 11am to 6pm in Memorial Park in Pasadena. The LGBT Pride festival is free to the public.
The celebration will feature a Culinary & Sap experience by Celebrity Cruises, a Classic Car Show sponsored by Great Autos of Yesteryear; an Authors’ Forum with area LGBT authors; the Big Draw LA, a community draw experience where you can create a “road tile” for the “Road to Equality;” the City of Pasadena’s “We the PPL” project collecting oral histories; family and children activities; community exhibitors and vendors; Drag Queen Bingo with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, an erotic art exhibit from the Tom of Finland Foundation, and a fundraising wine tasting featuring Barefoot Wines.
For the first time, Celebrity Cruises has brought its modern luxury cruise experience on shore and they will be at the San Gabriel Valley Pride Festival & Car Show! The Celebrity Cruises on-shore Culinary & Spa experience will feature gourmet-quality cuisine from Celebrity Cruises’ signature restaurants. Guests may sample shipboard fare prepared on site in a specially outfitted food truck by highly skilled chefs from Celebrity Cruises. Full lunchtime meals will also be available for purchase at the event, with 50 percent (50%) of all proceeds from food sales donated by Celebrity Cruises to our non-profit, community benefit organization: San Gabriel Valley Pride, Inc. Complimentary neck and shoulder massages and professional masseuses will be on hand for guests to experience Celebrity Cruises’ Spa & wellness program.
The Classic Car & Motorcycle Show sponsored by Great Autos of Yesteryear and always a favorite will feature up to two dozen pre-1979 classic cars competing for awards such as the Mayor’s Choice and The People’s Choice and Best of Show. The sight of classic cars lining Holly Street makes for some great photo ops.
The City of Pasadena’s We the PPL is a community documentary project, dedicated to commemorating the story of Pasadena through the recordings of oral histories and community stories. “Pride Is” attendees are encouraged to share their life experiences as members of the LGBT and Pasadena communities for a film which will be published on the Pasadena Digital History Collaboration and the Pasadena Public Library websites. The goal of the project is to inform and enrich understanding of Pasadena history and culture. The City Library will also be at the Festival with activities for all ages ranging from arts and crafts to readings.
An Authors’ Forum features authors on the hour beginning at 11:00 am through 5:00 pm. Books cover many genres: poems, fiction, non-fiction, fantasy, self-improvement, religion, and comics. Verónica Reyes, a Chicana jota poet from East L.A. will read/sign “Chopper! Chopper! Peter Saenz will read/sign “Coven of Wolves.”
The Pride festival will again participate in the Big Draw LA. Festival-goers of all ages are invited to create an image (materials provided) that represents their interpretation of what “Pride Is!” We’ll add the images to a road tile on our Road to Equality which was started at last year’s event.
Adults are invited to join in a FUN Bingo experience that you'll never forget and your Grandma wouldn't recognize. Drag Queen Bingo with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will have you laughing so hard you'll cry. The Bingo is free but we hope you help us raise money in our Wine Tasting of Barefoot Wines. An array of art from the Tom of Finland Foundation will be on display to round out this adults only venue. See this art before the Foundation’s exhibit opens at MOCA later this year.
