The Other Side was a Silver Lake institution for forty years and LA's last true piano bar until is closed in 2012. In our first APT 3F show of the fall. we will be remembering this important social space and mode of gay nightlife through film, music and discussions.
The show will feature a screening of Jane Cantillon's documentary The Other Side: A Queer History's Last Call
Following the screening, queer nightlife scholar Andrew Henkes will moderate a talk with the audience and filmmaker.
In the front room, there will be a special edition of Jose Promis' PIANO BAR featuring performers and tunes from the Other Side all night long. Jose Promis was the last pianist to be hired at the Other Side and continues the legacy every Monday night at Akbar!
THE OTHER SIDE happens on Monday, September 29 at 8:00 pm at Akbar, 4356 Sunset Blvd, 90029 (corner of Fountain Ave). Suggested donation $5 benefits the documentary makers. Arrive early as seating will be limited.
