Finally! I've been working to get Matt Ellis in to play HTH and the stars at last aligned and he is here along with another rising star I've been working to get back here, Alice Wallace. (This makes one hell of a great show for my BIRTHDAY week!) Matt hails from Sydney, Aus, but is now based in Venice and he's played his award-winning Americana on famous stages all over the world from the Troub and Pappy & Harriets to the Sydney Opera House and Santa Monica Pier. Alice's two albums in the past two years have earned her "Best Country / Americana" and "Best Live Band" nominations in the Orange County Music Awards. Come shake a tailfeather with me!
MATT ELLIS
Matt Ellis is an award winning Americana Singer/Songwriter/Producer from Sydney, Australia. Now based in Venice, California, Ellis released his fifth solo album, "The Greatest Escape" in late 2014.
Matt’s five solo albums have taken him across the United States, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong and Mexico, performing at The Sydney Opera House, Troubadour, Tucson’s Rialto Theatre, CBGBs (RIP), The Bitter End, El Mocambo, Hotel Cafe, The Satellite, Pappy & Harriets and The Annandale Hotel sharing the stages with Calexico, J.Tillman, DeVotchKa, and John Doe to name a few. Album guests have included Nels Cline, Greg Leisz and Merry Clayton, while numerous tracks have been licensed by ABC TV America, MTV, Qantas and The Food Network while receiving airplay on hundreds of Radio Stations around the globe.
In Summer 2012, Matt was invited to open for Kasey Chambers at KCRW’s Twilight Series on the Santa Monica Pier, where the seven piece band previewed new tracks to a crowd of 15,000. His last single, recorded with members of Calexico and Chessboxer, has received airplay on over 50 radio stations across the US, Australia and Europe since.
ALICE WALLACE
In the last two years, singer-songwriter Alice Wallace has self-released two albums, earned "Best Country / Americana" and "Best Live Band" nominations in the Orange County Music Awards, and has played shows and festivals in more than 40 cities stretching across 10 U.S. states. And she is just getting started.
The southern California songwriter’s strong vocals and the personal style of her songwriting have been getting attention since her first album release in 2011, Sweet Madness. In March of 2013, she quit her full-time job and dove headfirst into music, releasing her second album, A Thousand Miles From Home, in October of 2013.
Alice’s style is heavily influenced by modern folk singers like Patty Griffin and Brandi Carlile, but is also rooted strongly in the iconic voices that have defined folk and country music for decades: Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Linda Ronstadt. The 10 tracks on Alice’s new release, A Thousand Miles From Home, range from soulful blues to twangy country, but all of the songs have Alice’s distinct blend of influences across the folk, country and blues spectrums.
