LA OPERA OFF GRAND PRESENTS DRACULA WITH PHILIP GLASS AND THE KRONOS QUARTET

This Halloween, Hollywood’s most alluring bloodsucker gets an evocative new soundtrack. There have been many screen versions of Bram Stoker’s classic tale of Dracula, but none more famous or enduring than Universal Studios' 1931 original. Because its initial release coincided with the transition from silent pictures to “talkies,” when limited sound technology existed, no musical score was ever composed and there were few sound effects. For its 1998 restoration of the film, Universal commissioned legendary composer Philip Glass to write a hypnotic new instrumental score, blowing the cobwebs off the horror classic and adding depth to the emotional layers of the drama. Glass himself will share the stage along with the celebrated Kronos Quartet, for a unique opportunity to witness one of the world’s most famous composers in action. Their live performance of the score provides an eerie counterpart to the suspense of the creepy classic projected on the big screen.
