The long, hot Summer is refusing to leave but nonetheless Autumn has arrived restive & ready to steer us toward the holidays. This month's homo-centric offers a respite to the upcoming madness with Still Life, Restive Writers with James Sie and Charles Jensen.
This month we're excited to welcome James Sie, author of 'Still Life Las Vegas.' James Sie was born in New Jersey and raised by a Chinese father and an Italian mother. He wrote and performed a solo show about his bi-cultural upbringing, 'Talking with My Hands', at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, where he now lives with his husband and their son. His plays and adaptations have been produced in Chicago, New York and Seattle, among other places. His essays have appeared in The Rumpus and The Advocate. In addition to writing, Sie currently works as a voiceover artist in animation, most notably featured in Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness and Jackie Chan Adventures.
Charles Jensen is the author of four chapbooks of poetry, most recently The Nanopedia Quick Reference Pocket Lexicon of Contemporary American Culture, and a full length collection, The First Risk, which was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award. His poems have appeared in Bloom, Prairie Schooner, Field, and New England Review.
In addition, we're happy to announce that writer/director Henry Alberto and homo-centric curator Hank Henderson will read poet Richard Blanco's latest poem 'Matters of the Sea.' 'Matters of the Sea' was written to commemorate the reopening of the American Embassy in Cuba last month.
