You can go to any station (such as the Fullerton station) and ride train or metro to Union Station. From there we'll head over to the park.
Ideally we'd want to be at the park when it opens so that people who don't have passes can enjoy the park for the whole day (it's 9am according to Universal's website) and the red line takes 25 minutes from Union Station. You still need to buy a ticket for Universal Studios if you don't have a pass.
Depending on what people want to do we might do a second optional Meetup at Hogsmede at 11am in case people are driving up or coming in later.
Update: Okay, we are less than a week away so here's the final details. The idea is to take some form of public transportation, whether it is the subway, train or bus. It is up to YOU to get to Universal Studios and get back home. There are many websites and apps to help you get to the park and back home. Just remember that if you take public transportation you are dictated by their time schedule and not yours. Please make sure that you plan a time to get by home, so you won't need to get an ride from some sort of taxis. It will be a pricey ride.
If you decide to drive up instead, feel free to do so. Just keep in mind that the 101 is going to be down to 2 lines starting on Sunday for 4 days. We are not sure if it will still be down by the 1st, but check for traffic conditions before you come up.

With all of that in mind, if you live by the Fullerton train station; Amy and I are planning to take the 8:22 Amtrak to go up to Union Station. We should arrive at Union station around 9:00 to 9:15. From there we will take the Metro Red Line to Universal Studios. In total it is an 1 hour and 30 minute trip. Then we will be leaving to go back home around 6. If you wish to join us feel free to do so.
