i arrived in LA 10/30/09 and immediately went to dinner at El Conquistador with my host. We had a blast.
The staff was efficient, funny, flirty and warm. The food was good and authentic mexican recipies, The decore is fun,(maybe a tad coconut grove with all the paper streamers/lanterns)and........as my host promised "Elton John" is a waiter. Well, just a look a like but fun.
Two thumbs way up for relaxed, funky dining.

El Conquistador has a fun atmosphere--the staff members are friendly and it usually has very festive decorations. Food quality is good, though the tortillas could be better. You usually get a "soup of the day" with your order, and I've enjoyed all (but the carrot) soups I've gotten. Watch out for the Margaritas! I had three one night and when it hit me I was out for the night.

Cool little corner spot in Silverlake. Colorfully decorated to match the month and/or holiday. Amazing authentic Mexican dishes. The Sonorense, one of their specialty chicken dishes, is fantastic! Staff is friendly, upbeat, and attentive. One of the best margaritas I have ever had, and I have had many!
So, what do you say?
