A native of Tel Aviv, Itzhak Perlman first became interested in the violin after hearing classical music on the radio. At three, he was refused conservatory admission for being too small to hold a violin. Perlman was introduced to the wider American audience when he appeared several times on The Ed Sullivan Show. He continues to make guest appearances on American TV, such as The Tonight Show and Sesame Street, winning four Emmys in the process. In 2015, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
