Philippe's French Dip

(25 Ratings)
The birthplace of the French dipped sandwich
If you're looking for fancy, you won't find it here. But this L.A. institution is a must-stop at when downtown to try one of their world famous sandwiches. There's also a breakfast menu, too.

You want how much!!!!!

Many of my friends raved about Phillippe's. So, I fell for it and had lunch there one day. I have to admit the sandwich was good. But, definitely not worth the $12 charged. Overpriced with very little ambiance or character.

The birthplace of the French dip (perhaps)

When having visitors, I like to make a stop here to see this old-fashioned restaurant, but I have never been lucky to have lunch with my guests. Always crowded! Nevertheless, the ambience brings back memories of the roaring 30's. The menu is very limited and their specialty is French dip Sandwiches. Don’t bring high expectations about taste and quality so you will not be disappointed. Ask for Double-Dip if you want it juicy (you don’t get side dip).
