Out in the newsroom: A look at LGBT coverage and careers in journalism
Saturday Mar 2, 2013 11:00AM-1:00PM
in Los Angeles
NLGJA-LA and the Los Angeles Press Club are teaming up to bring you a panel of openly gay journalists sharing their experiences and advice on being out in the newsroom today.
What are the pros and cons of being out to your superiors, co-workers and sources? What is the responsibility of an LGBT journalist when it comes to a news organization's LGBT coverage? Has sexuality become a non-issue, an advantage? A disadvantage?
The panel inculdes CNN's Miguel Marguez, Pulitzer Prize winner Bettina Boxall of the Los Angeles Times, Emmy winner Mekahlo Medina of NBC4 and former Los Angeles Times assistant travel editor Jane Engle.
The discussion will be moderated by Variety's Ted Johnson, former president of the Los Angeles Press Club. Lunch will be provided, so RSVP ahead of time if you're sure you'll be there. See you soon!
