ABOUT THIS PERFORMANCE
Two of the greatest pianists of our time make a rare joint appearance here, performing music by composers with whom they are closely associated.
When she was sixteen, Argentina-born Martha Argerich won the Geneva International Music Competition and, three weeks later, the Ferruccio Busoni International Competition. She won the seventh International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw when she was only 24. In musical circles, she is a legend.
San Pedro native Stephen Kovacevich moved to the U.K. when he was 18 to study and has remained a part of Britain’s music scene ever since. At 21, he made a sensational debut at London’s Wigmore Hall, playing Alban Berg’s Sonata, preludes and fugues by Bach, and Beethoven's Diabelli Variations. One of the most revered musicians of his generation, he has won unsurpassed admiration as a searching interpreter of the core classical repertoire.
