SH'MA is the Hebrew word for "hear" or "listen." This concert invites you to listen with your ears and your heart as these ancient texts and themes find expression in a modern choral medium.
You'll hear ancient nigguns and Sephardic folk songs; you'll hear works in Hebrew, English, Ladino, and Estonian; you'll hear the Psalms of David in modern arrangements; and you'll hear a brand-new arrangement of Max Janowski's Avinu Malkeinu for SATB choir, vocal soloist, and oud by L.A. Choral Lab member and two-time Grammy award winner Ben Bram.
Central to the mission of the L.A. Choral Lab is the performance and promotion of new works by living composers. This program will contain several world premieres and several West Coast premieres as well.
A FREE RECEPTION is provided for ALL concertgoers on-site at Temple Israel of Hollywood immediately following the concert.
