LOS ANGELES – City leaders will kick off the seventh annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Heritage Month in the City of Los Angeles with a reception and special Council presentation at City Hall on Wednesday, May 31.

LOS ANGELES – City leaders will kick off the seventh annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Heritage Month in the City of Los Angeles with a reception and special Council presentation at City Hall on Wednesday, May 31.
Mayor Eric Garcetti and City Controller Ron Galperin will join Councilmembers Mike Bonin and Mitch O’Farrell for a special ceremony honoring trailblazers in LA’s LGBT movement. The event will take place on Wednesday, May 31, starting at 8:30 a.m., in the third floor rotunda at Los Angeles City Hall, located at 200 N. Spring St, Los Angeles, 90012. The official Council presentation will follow at 10 a.m. in the John Ferraro Council Chamber.
As part of the celebration, the elected leaders will honor the following LGBT artists and activists for their work to advance equality:
-Alexandra Billings, Actor, Transparent
-Michael Kearns, Actor/Artist/Activist
-Sara Ramirez, Tony Award winner/actor/singer/activist
-Alexei Romanoff, Activist
The event will also feature the unveiling of the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs' official 2017 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Heritage Month Calendar and Cultural Guide, as well as a special exhibit curated by ONE Archives, the largest repository of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) materials in the world.
Later in the evening, the City Hall tower will be illuminated in the distinct rainbow colors of the gay pride flag, compliments of the Office of Mayor Eric Garcetti.
This event will help kick off the 47th annual LA Pride celebration (June 5-11), a week dedicated to LGBTQ+ inspired events and programming that culminates in the popular LA Pride Festival (June 10-11) and the #ResistMarch (June 11). For more details on LA Pride, visit www.lapride.org.
