One of the original dance bars in L.A. And it's still a good dance club with a diverse clientele. Saturday night is the big Disco Night with DJ's of various abilities, but the rest of the week has couples dancing with a concentration on country/western. Lots of line dancing, too. There are usually free lessons early, before the place gets crowded. The crowd is mostly 30+ and very little attitude. If you don't like dancing and are looking for 20 something twinks, you won't like it here.

    • Only The Best Can Survive! Sounds Like Oil Can Harry's!
The club was founded back in 1971 by Bert Charrot who hired Bob Tomasino during the mid 1970's to be his doorman and later club manager and ran the bar from 1978 up to 2013 until he Bert passed away and then Bob took over! This club is very important since they have many celebrity clients and specialize in Disco Music from the 1970's - 1980's and they really cater to their customers music tastes by playing really Good Music and were best known for being the Top Disco Bar Of The 1970's! On the 2nd and 3rd Sunday of the Month from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Lori Donato has a Jazz Club with a 4 Piece Band with Live Singing. If you bring in your own sheet music, she will play your songs. Karaoke: They have been hosting Fantastic Karaoke Nights on Wednesdays from 9:00 p.m. - 12:30 a.m. and on Fridays/Saturdays from 10:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m. Learn Line Dancing: They have been hosting an ongoing School for Line Dancing for Singles and Couples which are held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Happy Hour: That is held Monday to Fridays from 3:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Last, but Not Least, they run a successful club with 18 employees to keep them Strong and have a Minimal Door Charge of only $5.00 on Saturday Nights. Fun night out
Fun club in the heart of Austin. No cover on a Saturday night & decent priced drinks. Good crowd mix of ages & races.

      LA's Hidden Gem
This bar is, without a doubt, my favorite gay bar in Los Angeles. They teach country line dances to top 40s and country hits every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday night; karaoke on Fridays and Saturdays upstairs; retro disco on Saturdays; and they host Beer Busts, West Coast Swing Lessons, and drag shows on Sundays. They have a great jovial atmosphere, the people are very friendly, the DJ spins great records, and the drinks are inexpensive. Throw on your jeans and boots / dancing shoes and just go.

My first gay bar in LA almost 20 years ago. Nice souvenirs! Good ambiance. Maybe it has changed a bit... ;)

      Country Western
I didn't get to go to the Sat. retro, but heard it would be great. The country western nights that I went to was lively. I went with a group that has been going for 30+ years. It's nice to see a place with longevity. It is a small place with limited parking. There was a $3 cover charge on the nights I went. Not really my kind of place, but I can see why others would like it.

      An icon in the valley
Use to frequent here in the 80's and it was quite fun place, didn't like the low ceilings but music was quite good, crowds were pretty down to earth. Glad it has survived when it's so common for gay bars to come and go.

      Fun Place
I have to say, this is a fun place to hang out. The décor has not changed since the first time I walked into this bar in the late 1970’s. The guys here are a very eclectic bunch, hot muscle dudes, young little twinks to guys older than Methuselah. And everyone is friendly and having a great time. Drinks are reasonably priced and the bartenders are friendly and fast. Please note: I am only reviewing “Saturday Retro Nights”. I’ve never been to “Country Western Nights”. I hear it’s great fun, but I’ve never experienced it for myself. Now, to the reason many people go to “Saturday Retro Nights” At OCH's, IT'S FOR THE MUSIC, I think the owners forgot this part. OCH’s built their “Saturday Retro Nights” with an awesome DJ, who knows 70’s, 80’s & 90’s music and knows how to blend and build the energy on the dance floor. I loved this DJ’s work. It truly was like being back at Studio One, The Probe, The Limelight or Studio 54. But then they changed that DJ and replaced him with someone who is absolutely horrible. I thought that maybe they were trying this DJ out for the night. So I came back a couple of times only to hear that he’s the regular DJ for “Saturday Retro Nights”. The owners clearly dropped the ball on this one. They have a great atmosphere, awesome bartenders, a friendly staff but absolutely no understanding of the importance of music. As I see it, the only problem with Oil Can Harry's is that the “Saturday Retro Night” DJ "SUCKS BIG TIME”. And the music was the biggest reason to go there. It use to be a five star place, but now I give OCH's three stars.

      No 'tude, TONS of FUN!
Went there on my birthday for retro night...had a blast! Everyone is very friendly. The DJ was actually beat mixing the original 12" singles from the 70s and 80s. The dance floor was packed. A generally mixed crowd, gay, straight, boys and girls. LOVE this place and I'm goin' back! One not so good thing: parking sucks. That said...go anyway!

      Saturday Night FUN
I've been coming to Oil Can's so long now, I don't remember how many years. Saturday night is a real fun night. Come to dance or just listen to your favorite disco classics. I love to dance and get a great sweaty workout here. Many friends venture here on Saturday nights, so there's always someone to hang with. During the week is Country Dance night. I don't know the country dancing, but it's fun to watch. Come experience the fun time at OCH.

    • Best Dance Bar with Attitude and High Prices
Great for CW dancing even if you don't know how and Saturday nites--the BEST! You don't get stiffed on hefty cover charge or high drink prices like WEHO but the men are just as great!
