On December 13, treat yourself, raise a glass and raise some hell, with David Trudell in Spirits Anyone. Inspired by Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, David is visited by three renegade spirits of the Past, Present, and Future who encourage him to remain his authentic gay self rather than enroll in Father White’s Conversion Therapy Institute in Texas. Directed by Michael Kearns and produced in association with Moon Mile Productions.
David Trudell (Playwright/Actor) returns to his solo roots with Spirits, Anyone? Gay male angst in the 21stcentury is Trudell’s trademark backdrop. He debuted his first solo performance piece, In Heat In Hollywood, directed by Michael Kearns, at the Skylight Theatre in June 2012. After receiving rave notices and an extended run of the sold out shows, Dave reprised In Heat… at the Cavern Club Theatre at Casita del Campo, immediately before unveiling a holiday extravaganza version, In Heat In Hollywood Ho Ho Ho (back at the Skylight). Trudell's second solo show, Night & Dave, again directed by Kearns, had its world premiere at Highways Performance Space in May 2013. Trudell reprised Night & Dave that summer at the Spirit Studio in Silverlake and in November at The Malibu Playhouse. He continued to explore the psyche of the modern gay man—not quite a millennial but by no means an elder—by taking his mischievous past into consideration. Queer & Now, Trudell’s third solo show directed by Kearns, debuted to a sold out crowd in May 2014 at Highways Performance Space. A departure for the solo artist, Trudell played Professor Dave, a Hollywood “sexpert” who delves into the rapidly changing sexual mores and the pansexual possibilities of being a homosexual in today’s world of ever-evolving roleplaying. As with all of his work, Trudell employs his writing and acting talents to bring to life multiple characters—whether a fleeting glimpse or a fully developed monologue in which his audience “meets” someone they might never encounter in “real life.” Collaborator Michael Kearns identifies Trudell as an artist “who aims to illuminate the zeitgeist of his generation through solo work that is identifiable, edgy, and humorous.”
