She was the "Queen of Tejano Music”, the "Madonna of Mexico" -- but to us she was simply Selena, and she was the bridge. The bridge between Spanish and English-language cultures, between rich and poor, between gay and straight, between the Latin charts and American pop. Her tragic passing at age 23 cemented her legacy for years to come, and this film starring a brilliant young Jennifer Lopez captures every facet of her meteoric rise. Inbetween the musical numbers (feel free to sing along!), the film’s message of courage and unity still rings true today.
