APLA's Vance North Necessities of Life Program (NOLP) provides groceries to over 1,700 clients who live on a limited income. Clients are able to access the food bank once a week, four times per month and take home three to four bags of groceries per visit. They receive a wide variety of predetermined items. NOLP is one of the largest programs at APLA Health and we have a number of opportunities for volunteers, such as distributing groceries to clients, pre-bagging groceries, filing, and stocking shelves.
Begun as a $35-a-week food voucher program in 1986, NOLP has since become the nation’s largest network of food pantries for people with HIV/AIDS, currently operating out of eight locations throughout Los Angeles County.
Clients at NOLP food pantries receive pre-bagged groceries that include fresh dairy, frozen meats, fresh produce, and an assortment of canned and dry goods, as well as hygiene items and cleaning supplies.
Join LA Pride & Shake Shack on Friday, February 17th as we bag groceries for NOLP's clients!
